Our first outing for two years took place on Wed 22 Sep 2021 when 24 Society members and their guests took a safe and comfortable journey to the Gurkha Museum in Winchester. On arrival to the Museum they were met by Martin Brooks, past Chair of the Amersham Society and now Chair of the Museum Trustees.
After welcome refreshments, Martin introduced the Museum’s Director Dr Daren Bowyer, who gave a 45 minute talk on over 200 years of Gurkha history. This was an excellent foundation for the subsequent visit to the Museum itself where story of Gurkha past and present were vividly illustrated.
For the rest of the time in Winchester guests were given a choice to have a two-course curry lunch at the Museum, to visit other Army museums on the site or to see the sights of the city dominated by its Cathedral.
