Museum costume collections often reflect the lives of high society. But what about ordinary people – what did they wear in the course of their daily working lives? Precious little survives but Will Phillips has delved into the collections at Bucks County Museum in Aylesbury to reveal some examples of rural workwear from the 1800s, a period that saw huge changes in the way people lived and worked. Come along to this talk and find out more.
Will studied History of Art and Architecture at Reading University before completing an MA in Museum Studies at University College London. He worked for nine years at the Museum of English Rural Life and moved to Bucks in 2008 as Keeper of Social History.
The talk starts at 8.00pm. If you wish to participate in the meeting please email to info@amershamsociety.org requesting the invitation.
