Below is the statement by Amersham Town Council explaining the current status and further plans regarding the repairs to the Market Hall.
Last Monday, the Town Council commenced work on a project to carry out repairs to the clock tower above Market Hall.
The project involves reinforcing the internal structure supporting the clock tower, as well as repointing of the hall’s external brickwork and redecoration of the paintwork.
It is anticipated that the whole project will take three to four months. The appointed contractor has erected scaffolding to access the clock tower, however, to minimise disruption to the residents and shops on the northern side of the hall, the scaffolding has been positioned at the western end of the hall (next to the bench seat) and above the roof to access the clock tower.
After Christmas it will be necessary to erect scaffolding on the northern side, whilst the repointing and redecoration is carried out on that side of the hall, but this will be kept to a minimum to avoid further disruption to the residents and shop holders. We will notify the businesses and residents most affected before this scaffolding is erected.
We apologise for any inconvenience the work may cause and thank you for your co-operation in getting this much needed project underway.
